Bingo

I have been the happy owner of two toy poodles in my life to date...Spike was a male toy poodle that I got from a breeder in Sherwood many years ago...unfortunately I had to have him put down...it will be two years this August...His cohort in crime Bingo is well into her dotage at almost 15 yr. old (birthday in May) I rescued her from some strange puppy mill operation when she was 3 months old.

Bingo is most likely a grandmother some dozen times over. She had three litters in her career, and I decided enough was enough...I started feeling guilty about where these adorable puppies would end up, and Bingo had had enough.

For only being 6 lbs in her prime her bark and bite packed a lot of weight around our heavily pet populated home...she never gave any quarter to the cats who wanted to investigate her pups, or wanted to sleep with her in her dog bed...and she still doesn't.

Nowadays Bingo is content to be on her dog bed next to me while I work, her breathing is not so good...labored at best, and I can hear the rattle in her chest. She can't see much, and cant hear...her nose is going...I know what you think, and I know the end is near, but I also know that she gets up and goes potty outside 90% of the time, and she eats well, drinks, and can find her way around the house with no problem.

So what if she has doggie dementia...no really she growls at nothing...stands and stares into empty space, Oh and my personal favorite...she takes kibble from the dog dish carries it to her dog bed and lays on it (like a hen sitting on a clutch of eggs), she doesn't eat the food...she has hardly any teeth left in her head...she just lays on it...I think she thinks their her babies...w/e....No it's not time yet...soon, but not today.

Westminster Best in Non Sporting Group

Went to the Standard Poodle on Monday evening. A fantastic bitch Ch Randenn Tristar Affirmation.
I can't even begin to imagine the amount of time it must take to get a dog like this ready for the Westminster Dog Show.

Such a pretty dog. True perfection for her breed.

I love Poodles

I have had the pleasure of owning two fine, toy sized, specimens of this breed.

This attractive breed is often maligned as having no brains,animals...as far as dog training goes they are some of the smartest. and a barking compulsion. When in actuality quite the opposite is true. They excel in dog training classes, and are quite calm when raised properly.

The Germans first bred the standard size dog for water retrieval. Those goofy haircuts you see the dog sporting actually were designed by hunters, and serve a purpose. The purpose being to insulate the dogs vital organs when swimming in frigid waters. Miniature Poodles may have been used for truffle hunting or hunting small rodents. The Toy variety with their gregarious personalities were employed as entertainers in circuses.

The Poodle comes in three sizes depending on how much living space you can provide. Standard, Miniature, and Toy. Also the Poodle is hypoallergenic and does not shed. However they do require regular bathing and hair cuts.
